When you attended a Solution Focused Brief Therapy conference the one thing that is evident and amazing are the people that attend. Solution Focused practitioners are kind, fun, intelligent and extremely considerate. These incredible practitioners study this approach with curiosity, they apply the approach with skill, and they intervene with care and mindful collaboration.
I learn something new at every conference I attend whether it is about the approach itself or about the people that use it or about myself. In this webinar I will be sharing the new and recent developments I noticed in 2025 while I was teaching at and attending Solution Focused Brief Therapy conferences.
Something that stood out for me was the emphasis on the use of the therapist in therapy. Steve de Shazer proposed that we should not think but rather just observe. This I personally find impossible. I am constantly thinking while I am working and this concept kept popping up in my discussions with others as well as in the presentations I attended.
So how we can use our own meta-cognition as a therapeutic tool? How does our internal conversations serve our clients? What does our intuition tell us and how do we use it? I am fascinated by what is going on in the therapist’s head whilst she/ he is leading from behind. In this webinar I am going to explore what Eve Lipchick calls beyond technique.
