In an article written by Brain Jenning he postulates that Solution Focused Brief Therapy is a virtue rich approach that gives a very clear and decisive priority to the client’s  well-being. As a Solution Focused therapist we view the client’s well-being as our ultimate priority. Solution Focused sessions take the form of searching for our clients’ desired outcomes, strengths, and hopes, whilst constantly being aware and mindful of the client and their needs.

We tailor-make our conversations to redirect our clients toward what they want and who they are. Leading from behind builds conversations that shape the client’s reality and thus enables the client to construct their own solutions and have more satisfactory lives. Every Solution Focused session aims to create a collaborative and co-constructive dialogue with clients, and we see therapy as a visible interactional and dialogic process.

Being Solution Focused and intuitively focused on the client helps the therapist achieve a balance between well-being and autonomy. Therefore, we are doing two things at once, adhering to the approach and the ethical code of conduct. The Solution Focused approach teaches us to develop the qualities of listening for strengths, asking for desired outcomes and amplifying what works and thus helps the therapist develop character traits that are ethical and virtue rich. The focused interaction, cooperation and dialogue with the client serves as the means to achieve a balance between ethics and practice.
